deThe "Blindeninstitut München" supports blind and visually impaired children from birth, till about 21. Blindeninstitute includes Early Intervention (with about 200 children and families), kindergarten from 3 to about 6 years with preschool and, a special school for blind and visually impaired children with additional handicaps. After school, the children visit the curative pedagogic day care center. Altogether about 360 children and young grownups. There is a lot of experience, therapeutic knowledge and know-how in the Blindeninstitut München. The activities can briefly be described as follows:

  • All the technical aspects of the vision system (both eye and functional vision)
  • Description of the basic visual problems
  • Description of the additional handicaps that may coexist
  • What Early Intervention means: Assessment, Work with the parents-target setting, Work at home with the family, Intervention at the home environment, Cooperation with the siblings, etc
  • Counseling – Problem Solving techniques for parents
  • Main topics of Early intervention applied to a child: Visual training, Basic Stimulation, Sensory Intervention, Appropriate materials according to the individual needs
